Short Description
Dividing vessels into types, series and classes are different methods of vessel categorisation. The class of a vessel determines the standard and operating conditions a vessel is required comply with. Vessel classes are divided according to usage, area of operation and special ability (for example Ice Class, Oil Recovery Capability, etc.). A vessel type represents a particular form of vessel decided by size, (for example PANAMAX), or usage (for example MULTI PURPOSE).
The Vessel Configuration section includes the Vessel Class, Vessel Series and the Vessel Type modules. The modules are where all vessel classes, series and types relevant to a user are defined and once entered a vessel can be linked to a class, series or type via the Vessel Administration module. Vessel types can also be linked to a Vessel Category, (which differentiates how a vessel appears and is calculated for) and be used to link calculations to market indices. The vessel type information is used throughout the system, as many modules will behave and function according to vessel type, (or more specifically, according to Vessel Category).
