Commodities
Short Description
The Commodities section includes four levels of entering and categorising cargo ranging from basic overall group divisions into the more and more specific: Commodity Class, Commodity Group, Commodity and Sub Commodity. The Commodity Class is the most basic category dividing cargo into “overall groups”, for example, drybulk, wetbulk, agriculture products, etc. Commodity Group is a subcategory of Commodity Class categorising cargo in more detail, for example, palm oil, coconut oil, grains, etc. The next level is Commodity, further specifying the cargo type, for example, palm nut oil, wheat, rye, etc. This is the ONLY MANDATORY level to be completed when entering cargo information. The final and most specified level is Sub Commodity - its purpose is to provide the most specified information regarding type of cargo for example, chemicals: 2.3-Butanediol, 2.3-Butylene glycol, etc.
Every entry in all four levels is given a specific code. The codes remain constant even if the name of the entry changes. This as other systems will recognise the code but maybe not the name. All codes basically have the same function, i.e. to enable identification during communication/integration between systems, for example with customs, - their only difference being that they are linked to different levels of cargo division.
