Sailing Routes in the Java Sea and Makassar Strait?

Question

Why is the sailing route on the east side of of the Makassar Strait when sailing from East Java Sea  (Jakarta area) to north of Makassar Strait (e.g. Tanjung Bara)?

Example:

Routing to the east side of the Makassar Strait.

Answer

The default routing through the Makassar Strait is on the east side when sailing from the East Java Sea, as opposed to following the east coast of Borneo when sailing from Singapore. To change the sailing route to instead follow the east coast of Borneo when sailing from the East Java Sea adjust the port rotoation by adding the routing point "LJ" (Sambargalang). The system will recalculate and the new port rotation apply. Note: BEFORE making changes to a port rotation - Contact the vessel's captain and check which route/s are usually sailed.

Example:

Routing on the east side of Borneo (west side of the Makassar Strait).
