How are Bunker Consumption and Cost Calculated?

Question

How the total bunker consumption and cost of a voyage calculation calculated?

Answer

Calculating the total bunker consumption and cost consists of several parts. Use the calculation rules to check the calculation of bunkers consumption and cost:

Unfrozen Voyage (Estimate Only)

Frozen Voyage (Operational)

Voyage Charter

Consumption

Fuel Oil

  • FO ballast * days ballast
  • + FO loaded * days loaded
  • + FO in port working * days loading in ports tagged as working
  • + FO in port idle * days loading in ports tagged as non-working
  • + FO in port idle * days waiting
  • + FO in port idle * days extra in port
  • + FO in port working * days discharging
  • + FO in port idle * days canal
  • + FO cleaning * days cleaning
  • + FO heating * days heating

Diesel Oil

  • DO at sea * days ballast
  • + DO at sea * days loaded
  • + DO in port working * days loading in ports tagged as working
  • + DO in port idle * days loading in ports tagged as non-working
  • + DO in port idle * days waiting
  • + DO in port idle * days extra in port
  • + DO in port working * days discharging
  • + DO in port idle * days canal

Cost

  • Cost for each bunker type is simply calculated as total consumption * estimated price

Consumption

The consumption for each bunker type is calculated like an estimate. However, as actual ROBs are keyed in at arrival and departure, the VMS will use a combination of estimates and actual consumption based on the ROB figures. Once all ROB figures are entered the VMS will ONLY uses the ROB figures to calculate the consumption.

Cost

  • All Bunker Types:
    • Total consumption * actual price based on FIFO
    • - total offhire consumption deductible owner * agreed price
    • +/- loss / profit on bunkers against owner

Time Charter

Consumption

Fuel Oil

  • FO ballast * days ballast (prior to delivery/after redelivery)
  • + FO in port idle * days total in port (prior to delivery/after redelivery)
  • + FO in port idle * days canal (prior to delivery/after redelivery)

Diesel Oil

  • DO consumption = DO at sea * days ballast (prior to delivery/after redelivery)
  • + DO in port idle * days total in port (prior to delivery/after redelivery)
  • + DO in port idle * days canal
