Voyages in Dataloy VMS are estimated, tracked and recorded to a detailed level (beginning and ending with the start and end of each voyage). However, vessels may be sailing between voyages (i.e. ballast voyages: without employment and without cargo), for example to bunker, have maintenance, repair, etc. The Create-Maintain-Complete-TBN-Voyage process enables the tracking and recording of such ballast voyages in the same detailed manner as when performing a voyage (with cargo). The separate entry enables the ballast voyage’s details to be registered without influencing and changing the final results of the previous, now completed, voyage (for example causing huge deviations between the final and the pre-calculation results). The process includes the creation and fixture of temporary TBN (To Be Nominated) ballast voyages (Step 1) and what to do when the vessel once again is under employment and the new voyage needs to be tied (merged) with the TBN-voyage (Step 2). |
Example scenario - see steps below:
Following the completion of a voyage, the next voyage for a vessel is not immediately fixed. Instead, the vessel is sent on a ballast voyage to other port for bunkering. Using the Create-Maintain-Complete-TBN-Voyage process a temporary voyage consisting of only the ballast leg to the bunker port is created. The ballast voyage is frozen and the schedule can be updated with the ballast voyage's details (Step 1). Once the vessel has a new cargo and voyage, the updated schedule of the temporary ballast voyage is unfrozen and merged with the new fixture (Step 2).
