Short Description
The Master Data module houses the core data, for example clients, vessels, etc., accounting parameters and any other data required to successfully operate the different modules of the system. Master Data is a single source of basic business data used across the VMS in the modules and is shared by multiple users. To enable full usage of the system it is necessary to enter data into this module.
The Master Data module is divided into five administration modules:
- General Master Data Administration
- Holds a combination of various core data, accounting parameters and other basic key data required (for example basic business data and definitions) to enable full usage of the VMS.
- Vessel Administration
- Where all user defined vessels and their details (both general and specific) are entered, stored and maintained, incudling data details that directly impact on the accuracy of voyage calculations.
- Trade Administration
- Where all user defined trades (or routes) are entered, stored and maintained. Any type of route can be enterd. A trade route is a series of distances and stoppages used for commercial transport of cargo and form a basis (or template) for an actual voyage for cargo.
- Area Administration
- Houses all user defined geographical areas. The areas can be of various categories (or groupings) for different purposes, for example War Risk areas, Bunker areas, Fleet areas, etc.
- Market Index Administration
- Houses the different types of indices used in Dataloy VMS. The indices and their values are used when measuring actual rates against indices and when in combination with other functions to for example measure performance, compare markets, etc.
Master Data is often entered once and does not change on a regular basis. However, keeping it up-to-date and with high quality enables a smooth operation of the system and high quality of output, analysis, reports and interactions with external systems.
To facilitate communication/integration with other systems and the VMS all entered data, for example, vessels, commodities, trade routes, coating types, etc. is given a unique code that will remain constant even if the entity’s name changes. This as other systems will recognise the code but maybe not the name. Other settings will thereby remain unaffected.
